2. Start Packing Early

Don't leave packing until the last day.

Start with belongings you rarely use, such as books, decorations, seasonal clothing and items kept in storage. Everyday essentials can be packed during the final days before your move.

Use strong moving boxes that can be safely carried and stacked inside the moving vehicle.

Avoid making boxes unnecessarily heavy. Books, dishes and other dense belongings should be divided between several smaller boxes rather than packed into one very heavy box.

As a general guideline, we recommend keeping packed moving boxes at approximately 10-15 kg whenever possible. This makes them safer to carry and helps protect both the box and its contents during transportation.

Packing Yourself?

That's absolutely fine.

If you're packing your own belongings, make sure every box is properly closed and strong enough to be stacked during transportation.

We recommend:

1. Don't leave empty space inside fragile-item boxes
2. Use smaller boxes for books and other heavy belongings
3. Wrap glass and ceramics individually
4. Keep liquids securely closed and upright
5. Clearly identify fragile boxes
6. Don't leave items sticking out of open boxes
7. Avoid using damaged or weak cardboard boxes

Once packed, label every box with its destination room and contents.

3. Label Your Boxes

Clearly labelled boxes make loading, unloading and unpacking much easier.

Each box should show the room where it belongs and, where useful, a short description of its contents.

LIVING ROOM – BOOKS

OFFICE – DOCUMENTS

Clearly mark any box containing fragile belongings.

When ARSA Transport provides the packing service, our team prepares, closes and labels the boxes as part of the service.

Good labelling allows our movers to place boxes directly into the correct rooms at your new property, making the delivery and unpacking process considerably easier.

4. Prepare Fragile & Valuable Items

Some belongings require more protection than standard household items.

Please inform ARSA Transport before your move if you are transporting:

Fragile belongings should never simply be placed loosely inside moving boxes. Glassware, ceramics and similar items should be individually wrapped and protected from movement inside the box.

Specialist protection for oversized, particularly fragile or high-value items can be added to your moving quotation where required.

5. Prepare Your Furniture

Large furniture may need to be dismantled before it can be safely carried and transported.

This commonly includes:

ARSA Transport can provide professional furniture disassembly and assembly as part of your moving service.

Please tell us beforehand which furniture needs to be dismantled so sufficient time can be included in your moving plan.

If you're dismantling furniture yourself, keep screws, fittings and other small components together in clearly labelled bags.

Avoid taping screws or metal components directly onto finished furniture surfaces, as this can cause damage.

6. Prepare Your Appliances

Household appliances should be ready for safe transportation before our movers arrive.

Refrigerator & Freezer

Remove all food and empty the appliance.

Freezers should be defrosted in advance so there is no remaining ice or water during transportation.

Shelves and loose internal components should be secured or removed.

Washing Machine

Disconnect the washing machine and drain any remaining water.

Where required by the manufacturer, transport bolts should be installed before transportation.

Dishwasher

The dishwasher should be disconnected and any remaining water drained before moving.

Dryer

Empty the water container and clean the filters before transportation.

Other Appliances

Coffee machines, kitchen appliances and other equipment should be emptied of water, liquids, food or loose components.

If you're unsure how a particular appliance should be prepared, check the manufacturer's instructions or contact us before moving day.

7. Tell Us About Access

Property access is an important part of planning your move.

Please provide accurate access information for both the collection and delivery addresses.

We need to know:

1. Floor level
2. Elevator availability
3. Elevator size if limited
4. Staircase access
5. Narrow entrances
6. Long carrying distances
7. Parking restrictions
8. Loading zones
9. Height restrictions
10. Gated access
11. Difficult property access

If the moving vehicle cannot park directly or reasonably close to the entrance, please tell us beforehand.

For some properties, a parking permit or external furniture lift may be required.
